简介:
- The first 3 works on the programme are the 1st to be composed by Kari Komppa himself. "Until then, I'd only done arrangements of works by others, & I'd never used strings either."
- Tethys was a YLE commission for an EBU competition for "contemporary light music".
- The name Makumoka (which means approximately "in bad taste" but sounds good in Finnish) was the spontaneous comment of drummer/percussion virtuoso Ippe K鋞k?on 1st hearing the piece in rehearsal.
- 1 of the movements of a 3-movement suite called Run of Three, Blues 26, was inspired by the blue City of Tampere buses. Komppa got on the wrong bus 1 night, resulting in a detour that called for a blues number.
- "Kari Komppa's by now legendary Aldebaran" wrote Helsingin Sanomat jazz critic Jukka Hauru in October 2004 after listening to a Euroradio concert entitled Jazz Classics of the Future given by the UMO Jazz Orchestra.
- The swing piece Saxlix is really an "etude" for the sax section. In the late 1970s it posed quite a challenge even for Finland's front-line musicians.
