神剧「弥赛亚」是会让皇帝听到站起来鼓掌的音乐，也是暴力美学派电影导演吴宇森最喜欢用来表现「正邪对决」场面时的配乐。1685年出生于德国与音乐之父巴哈早4个星期出生，韩德尔自幼便展现不凡的音乐才华。在1712年声誉正隆时，前往伦敦，结果便一直留在当地直到辞世。

「弥赛亚」是韩德尔最伟大的神剧，同时也是极为杰出的合唱音乐。剧本取材自新约与旧约圣经，描写耶稣基督一生的故事，所以也经常在圣诞节时演出，成为节庆音乐。德奥系指挥大师哈农库特坚持现场录音、忠于原稿的态度始终如一。本张专辑除了内页文字的精闢的分析与解说「弥赛亚」三幕剧的组织架构，同时也提出了一个大哉问：「韩德尔究竟是个甚麽样的人」，并深究当时歌剧式微，韩德尔转向神剧创作的背景与动机与对他的精神分析，还原250多年前宗教世俗化的原貌；当「哈利路亚」的合唱歌声响起，韩德尔用音乐所描绘的天国景象，与从「弥赛亚」手稿的字迹可以比对与体现出他当时的心理状态，从而看到他辛劳、紧张、煎熬而不曾放轻鬆过的一生，更是难以想像他只用三週的时间，耗尽所有的才能、绽放出无数巧思，而完成了这部旷世之作。

「韩德尔满意吗？」答案是肯定的。，他知道创作「弥赛亚」势在必行，只有财富、声誉与权势才可以平復他脆弱敏感的内心。临终前的韩德尔也跟音乐之父巴哈一样，双目失明，愁怅以终。哈农库特的指挥总是能完全深掘出作品的多重面向，即使是这首脍炙人口的「弥赛亚」，也不例外，不但兼具历史与学术考据，同时也是近年来绝无仅有权威性版本。
