PENTATONE's revelatory series of Remastered Classics from the 1970s have breathed a new life into many superb recordings from that era, often with spectacular results, thanks to the care with which the original 4.0 channel tapes have been transferred to multi-channel SACD. This disc of Debussy late chamber works from the Deutsche Grammophon catalogue is such an example, and whether assessed on artistic or sonic criteria is outstanding.

A handful of Boston Symphony Orchestra players recorded this batch of chamber music from Claude Debussy (1862-1918) in the 1970s. Famous players participating were the BSO's then concertmaster, Joseph Silverstein, cellist Jules Erskin, flutist Doriot Anthony Dwyer, pianist Gilbert Kalish and part-time conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, who played piano in the two sonatas. The concert is:
Prelude to the Afternoon of the Faun (1920 chamber transcription for 2 violins, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, cymbals, piano and harmonium by Benno Sachs, a pupil of Arnold Schoenberg)
